Audible Originals

Amazon

We are creating ongoing cover art for a new series of episodic “Audible Original” content developed as “cinema for your ears” for mainstream entertainment audiences who don’t regularly read books, so the objective was to create artwork that feels more like a movie poster than a book cover.

This series is available globally via the Audible app, but is marketed heavily to an Indian audience.

BHOOTIYAPA / Cover Art

India’s scariest incidences are often witnessed by the most unexpected sources – the rickshaw drivers who work late at night, the factory workers, the delivery boys who travel far into India’s interiors, etc. This series recounts their most hair-raising real life tales, the strange phenomena, ghost sightings and supernatural incidences they’ve witnessed with their own eyes. Cinematic sound design allows listeners to travel the country with them, late at night, in the back seat of their car, in the back corner of a factory, as they retell these incredible tales. The series is narrated by the subjects themselves, a first-of-its-kind eye witness series meant to transform listeners’ evening commutes as they too wonder, what tales their own driver can tell.

For this cover artwork, we collaborated with Mumbai-based artist Aaron Pinto.

SENTIMENTAL / Cover Art

This series removes the stigma from openly talking about mental health by two comedians who share their own mental health journey and guests on every episode (comedians, actors, experts, etc.) who are funny, honest and completely unashamed to talk about what’s been an otherwise taboo subject in India.

Mental Health is completely normal. Talk about how you’re feeling. Vent. Laugh with friends. Don’t feel ashamed to tell others how you feel.

For this cover artwork, we collaborated with Mumbai-based artist Priyanka Paul.

The happiest, most successful people do stupid sh*t. Defy convention, break the rules – we’ve been taught to live by the rules. But no life worth living, or career worth having comes from a straight and narrow path. Give yourself the freedom to do stupid sh*t in your life and career because it may just be the best decision you’ve ever made.

For this cover artwork, we collaborated with New York-based artist Nehal Josh.

SWAMI HASYADEV MAHARAJ / Cover Art

Swami Hasyadev Maharaj is Vir Das’s spiritual alter ego, a sweet-talking guru who touts the miraculous power of laughter and offers disastrously misguided advice. For the cover artwork, we collaborated with Mumbai-based artist Ajinkya Bane.

AGLA STATION INVESTIGATION / Cover Art

Agla Station Investigation is a true-crime parody series. Each episode features sergeant Aishwaryuh and two detectives investigating a new “crime”——such as a stolen office lunch or a doll that’s missing its head—that hardly warrants an investigation.

Under the leadership of Aishwaryuh, the two airheaded detectives of the petty crimes division—Aiyadaman and Chanaka—are quickly whipped into shape. Despite solving a record number of cases, the ambitious Aishwaryuh isn’t content with being stuck working small-time misdemeanors. She’s eager to move up the ranks and work homicide cases, which she eventually succeeds in doing.

Both victims and investigators in this series treat these humdrum occurrences with the seriousness of a gritty crime drama. Agla Station Investigation is an absurd sendup of a familiar genre.

For the cover artwork, we collaborated with Mumbai-based artist Priyanka Paul.

Take It To The Streets

We developed an out-of-home (OOH) campaign to support adidas Originals’ ZX Family “Take It To The Streets” campaign. The campaign leveraged guerrilla-style executions of wheatpaste street art posters throughout Beijing and Shanghai.

The posters were 1-to-1 full body-sized photography portraits of street-fashion models styled in adidas Originals’ looks wearing different ZX footwear. The posters were given a raw, selective desaturated treatment in which the models were made a muted black-and-white, while the ZX footwear were made bright and bold. The model poses in the posters were pre-designed to fit a variety of unexpected and interactive urban environments. The concept integrates different ZX footwear with street fashion and culture in an authentic, creative way.

We created a short documentary to capture the whole effort, from model photography and styling in our studio, to the graphic design and poster production, through to our street art teams in Beijing and Shanghai executing the artwork in the cover of night.

Lane Crawford

Lane Crawford engaged us to create an innovative and engaging retail window installation at its flagship Shanghai store along bustling Huaihai Rd.

Geometric shapes are the inspiration behind this series of window installations and sculptures, titled Geometric Fusion / Fashion Evolution Within the forms of rectangle, circle, triangle, and diamond, we remix and fuse four artists’ styles with Lane Crawford’s iconic products.

The installation concept aims to break the boundaries of design across fashion, beauty, and lifestyle; helping viewers discover a new world of style.

Circle: A Spacetime Odyssey (星际漫游), Winnie Chi

Inspired by the work of digital artist Ryoji Ikeda, this installation’s theme is based on the spherical and infinite vastness of the cosmos, incorporating Lane Crawford products into a pop-art style treatment.

Diamond: Crystal Force (能量水晶), Sonic Yuan

This installation uses a crystal diamond shape to display an assorted selection of Lane Crawford products. These elements are shown emerging from the diamonds in the style of a chemical reaction.

Rectangle: Art of Life (艺术日常), Shadow Chen

This installation visualizes the connection between a selection of Lane Crawford products and the everyday lives of people who use these products. The square shape represents the interdependant and paraellel natures of an object and its user.

Triangle: Nomadic, Sui Yao

Inspired by Alexander Calder’s three-dimensional line drawings, this installation uses Lane Crawford products, including shoes, sweaters, and hoodies, to express the elegance and beauty of visual balance within triangular shapes.

Chengyu Visualized

Hyatt Andaz

Storytelling takes many forms and idioms are one of the most elegant ways to encapsulate rich stories in just a few words or characters. Those passionate about Chinese culture know “Chengyu” –four character Chinese idioms–are a priceless and colorful source of Chinese myths, folktales, and historical facts that teach lessons about morality, life, and nature.

We’ve always believed that Chengyu should be celebrated more widely and in a variety of styles, including taking a modern approach to the visual reinterpretation of the four characters that make them up and the stories the phrases tell. That’s why we’re proud to announce our collaboration with Osage Art Consultancy to curate and produce an exhibition at Hyatt ANDAZ Shanghai titled “Chengyu Visualized.”

For the exhibition, 21 emerging Chinese artists from all over the country visually interpreted their favorite “chengyu” through typography design and artwork. “Chengyu Visualized” captures the essence of traditional Chinese idioms in a modern way, while showcasing a variety of individual artistic styles through various mediums.

We collaborated with several leading edge Chinese artists: Elephant, Niu Xiaosheng, Lok Ng, Garfield.M, IMKENICAN, Lulu, Mojo, Sally Zou, SO.P, Shrek Su, Hong Hua, Hua Tunan, Coozie, Broken Bike, Mei Lin, Su Sisi, Shadow Chen, Tan Se, Wang Na, Wang2Mu, and Momo.

Mei Lin /

Chengyu – liǔ àn huā míng /

Literal meaning – “Dense willow trees and bright flowers.” This idiom is often used in times of despair as a mental departure from a difficult situation. It alludes to the beauty of the world and acts as a reminder that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Artist interpretation – “This idiom evokes a strong sense of classic and elegant beauty. When it came to font design, I tried to preserve the fundamental style of the character while also smoothing out the lines by adding curves. The illustration uses simple, yet abstract elements to portray poetic scenes of beauty.”

Chengyu – nì liú ér shàng /

Literal meaning – “To go against the current.” This idiom is used to describe someone who is willing to break from conformity and is unafraid to try different things.

Artist interpretation – “The emotion captured in this image lies in the man’s facial expression. Through his grimace we see his endurance and perseverance in reaching his goal, while everything around him moves in opposition.”
