VSCO® announced today the launch of DSCO, a free GIF­making app exclusively for iOS which uses VSCO’s superior imaging technology in the creation of short, looping GIFs. The introduction of GIFs to VSCO’s global platform adds a layer of fun, creative expression alongside photos, journals, and curation.

People are able to choose from among a selection of VSCO’s most popular presets, or from exclusive DSCO presets developed in partnership with such cultural innovators as MTV, Opening Ceremony and others.

Through Tatsuo Suzuki’s Lens

Tatsuo Suzuki takes black and white photographs that document the fast pace of urban life in Shibuya, Tokyo. Tatsuo first started shooting in 2008, after getting a Nikon D70. After initially finding the art of photography to be very interesting, he soon became increasingly addicted to the medium. At the beginning he shot mainly in color, but over the years he shot more and more in black and white, as he felt that it captured the passion and emotions of his subjects more effectively.


鈴木達朗氏は白黒写真を撮影し、東京渋谷の都会の生活を記録しています。鈴木氏はNikon D70を手に入れた後、2008年に撮影を始めました。写真撮影に初めて強い関心を持った後、写真という媒体にますます夢中になってゆきました。最初の頃は、カラー写真を主に撮影していましたが、数年後、被写体の情熱と感情をより効果的に捉えると感じた白黒写真を撮影することが多くなってゆきました。

When asked about his background, he says that it is actually in music – and that punk rock, in particular, has left a very deep impression on him. Previously in high school and up until college, Tatsuo was in a punk band. Those days are now over, but one can still get a sense of his punk music past in his gritty black and white street photography.


鈴木氏は経歴について訊かれると、実は音楽にあった言います。そして、特にパンク・ロックが非常に深く印象に残ったと言うのです。かつて高校生から大学生の頃まで、鈴木氏はパンクバンドの一員でした。パンクバンドの日々はもう終わりましたが、今でも鈴木氏のザラザラした白黒のストリート写真からは、パンク的な感覚を感じ取ることができます。

Tatsuo admits the underlying impulse of punk has probably always existed in his photography. The uplifting energy, the irritability of punk, and frenetic rhythm are all in a way visually represented in his work. In his long exposure photography, for example, there is an expressiveness that seems almost musical.


鈴木氏は、内在するパンクロックの衝撃は、自身の写真に常に存在しているであろうと認めています。高揚するエネルギー、パンクの過敏性や熱狂的なリズムが彼の作品に視覚的に表現されています。例えば、彼の長時間露光撮影では、音楽的と思われる表現があります。

He shoots primarily on weekends when he is not working. Typically he would walk around the city and ask subjects if he can take their photo. Sometimes he doesn’t ask at all and just takes a spontaneous shot of a passerby. His interest is mostly in capturing people in their regular daily lives, and not so much about cool and perfect compositions.


彼は、主に働いていない週末に撮影します。普段は街中を歩き回り、被写体になってほしいと思った人に撮影の許可を求めます。時には、全く許可を求めずにに通行人をそれとなく撮影します。鈴木氏は、主として人々の日常生活を捉えることに興味を持っており、格好良く完璧な構図にはあまり興味を持っておりません。 

Tatsuo describes his photographic style as being emotional, impulsive and more documentary in nature. His favorite photographers include Robert Frank, William Klein, and Daido Moriyama. With Moriyama in particular, he shares a lot of stylistic similarities. Often described as being dark, gritty, rough, provocative and blurry, the same could be said of Suzuki’s work.


鈴木氏は自身の撮影スタイルについて、感情的、衝動的であり、どちらかというと記録的な性質が強いと表現しています。気に入っている写真家には、ロバート・フランク、ウィリアム・クライン、森山大道らがいます。特に森山氏とは、スタイルの類似点が多くあります。森山氏の写真は、ダーク、ザラザラしている、粗い、挑発的、ぼやけているとよく表現されますが、鈴木氏の作品にも同じことが言えるでしょう。

His inspiration, he says, comes mainly from within. He believes photographs can be a reflection of what goes on in a photographer’s mind, so if there is a perceived dark side in his work, he admits it probably also represents his inner state. He is not so interested in capturing humorous or comical street scenes, but is drawn more towards scenarios that have a high degree of tension and complexity.


鈴木氏によると、インスピレーションは自分の中から出てくるそうです。そして、写真は、写真家の心の中で起きていることの現れであろうと考え、作品の中に暗い部分が認識されれば、それは恐らく撮影者の心の状態の描写なのであろうと認めているのです。鈴木氏は、ユーモアがあったり、滑稽であったりするストリートシーンの撮影にはあまり興味がなく、かなりの緊張や複雑さを伴うシナリオにより惹かれます。

Like many other street photographers, Tatsuo is inspired by his chance encounters when out shooting, that sudden flash of a moment when first meeting someone. But at the same time, he admits that over the years there haven’t been that many especially memorable or monumental moments that he can recall while shooting. For Tatsuo, every day is a new day and one must always look to the future. He doesn’t typically like to look at past work, except mainly to learn from it and to try to improve on it. In his words, the photo he takes today he hopes will be better than the one that he took yesterday.


他の多くのストリートフォトグラファーと同様に、鈴木氏は外で撮影中に出会う機会からインスピレーションを得ます。それは、誰かに初めて合う時に突然ちらりと見える瞬間なのです。しかし、それと同時に鈴木氏は、ここ数年で思い出すことができるような、特に記憶や記念として残る撮影中の瞬間はないと認めています。鈴木氏にとり、毎日が新しい一日です。常に将来を見るべきなのです。鈴木氏は、過去の作品から学び、改善を試みるようなこと以外、普段は過去の作品に興味を示しません。「今日撮った写真は、昨日撮った写真よりもよく撮れていれば」というのが本人の言葉です。

Koenji Awa Odori

At the end of every summer, Kōenji plays host to Tokyo’s largest Awa Odori. This Japanese traditional dance festival originally started in Tokushima and was later adopted in Kōenji post-war by urban migrants from Tokushima Prefecture. Every year it attracts as many as 12,000 dancers and 1.2 million visitors over the course of just two days.


毎年夏の終わりになると、高円寺は東京最大の阿波踊りの開催地となります。徳島を起源とするこの日本伝統の踊り祭りは、のちに徳島県から上京した都市移住者により戦後高円寺で取り入れられました。毎年わずか2日間の開催期間中、この祭りは実に12千人の踊り手と120万人もの観光客で賑わいます。

Known to many as being the birthplace of Japanese punk music, Kōenji is a trendy neighbourhood in Tokyo, just west of Shinjuku. It is home to many boutique shops, live houses, and small restaurants. During the Awa Odori, its streets are lined with happy spectators, festival revellers, and thousands of dancers parading in colorful Japanese traditional costumes.


日本のパンク音楽の発祥地として多くの人に知られる高円寺は、新宿のすぐ西に位置し、東京でも近年人気の高い地区です。数多くのブティック、ライブハウス、小さなレストランが立ち並ぶ界隈です。阿波おどり開催中は、この地区の通りに祭りを楽しむ見物客や酒を飲んだ陽気な人々がひしめき合う中、色とりどりの伝統衣装に身を包んだ何千人もの踊り手が踊り歩きます。

The procession is made up of around 200 local dance troupes weaving their way through the shopping streets on the north and south side of Kōenji, accompanied by shamisen lute, traditional drums, shinobue flutes and cymbals. The rhythm of the procession builds up to a dramatic and exciting conclusion at the event’s finishing line.


地域の踊り手による約200の団体から成るこの行進は、三味線、太鼓、篠笛、シンバルといった鳴り物を伴奏に、高円寺の北側と南側に位置する商店街を踊り歩くものです。行進のリズムが、祭りの最終地点で、劇的で活気に満ちたクライマックスに達します。

The 59th Kōenji Awa Odori held this year in late August was organized under the theme of “Spreading Smiles” with the hope that the infectious smiles of the many thousands of participating dancers would lift the spirits of all the visitors and the local community of Kōenji.


59回高円寺阿波おどりは、参加する何千人もの踊り手の笑顔が広がり、高円寺を訪れるすべての人々と地域社会を元気づけることを目的に『笑顔に出会いたい』をテーマに掲げ、今年8月末に開催されました。

Historically, the Awa Odori festival probably originated and evolved from the Obon festivals in Tokushima, which have existed since the 16th century. It is said to have started more specifically in 1586 when the Lord Hachisuka Iemasa of Awa Province organized a celebration for the opening of Tokushima Castle.


阿波おどりの歴史は、16世紀から受け継がれる徳島の盆踊りを起源として発展したものと考えられています。具体的には、阿波国の武将、蜂須賀家政公が1586年に徳島城の落成を祝う祭を主催したことに端を発すると言われています。

Fueled by great amounts of sake, the drunken revellers on that night started to sing and dance. Some of the locals picked up some musical instruments and improvised music for the festivities. From then on, every year in Tokushima it became a popular major event that would last often for more than three days at a time. It wasn’t until the early 20th century, however, that the festival was officially coined Awa Odori.


当時祭りの夜、多量の酒に煽られた酔客が歌い踊り始めました。楽器を手に取り、祭りを祝って即興演奏を始める地元の者もいました。それ以来、徳島では毎年、一度に3日以上続く名高い主要行事になったわけです。とはいえ、この祭りが正式に阿波おどりと呼ばれるようになったのは20世紀初頭以降のことです。

These days the Kōenji Awa Odori is a major event in Tokyo that is popular with both locals and tourists alike. Typically held in late August of every year, the festival’s exuberant energy, costumes, dancing, and music are all bound to delight and bring smiles to the faces of the millions of spectators and participants involved. The Work of Ata Mohammad Adnan

Ata Mohammad Adnan is a doctor by profession, but he is also a street photographer out of passion. His photography is primarily focused on storytelling, and in his own words, he likes to shoot anything that intrigues him, which usually includes places he visits to interesting faces he sees.

He typically shoots with a Nikon Df 35/85 1.4, a Leica Q and more recently, a Sony A7ii. Over the years, he has felt most comfortable using prime lenses only and that has largely shaped his vision and way of shooting. Ata enjoys shooting and presenting in monochrome. Most of the time he even shoots in monochrome first to get a photograph’s vibe. Over time, Ata has reduced the quantity of photographs he normally takes, as sorting and processing his work is especially important to him.

Since he is a doctor, he also gets to meet a lot of people. That has prepared and helped him to interact with strangers outside when he wants to shoot portraits. “Also in our part of the world where doctors are regarded highly”, Ata admits, ”my subjects almost never reject being photographed by a doctor on the street.” His inspiration often comes from the people around him, and especially from the smiles that his camera infuses into complete strangers. Artistically he is influenced by photographers like James Nachtwey, Steve McCurry, and Nasir Ali Mamun – but most of all he is inspired by Nayeem Kalam whom he describes as his favorite photographer.

Ata Mohammad Adnan often spends from 12 to 15 hours a week shooting on the street. He has been photographing the kids in his neighborhood for the past four year, and they are always amused and quite friendly with him. “There was this one time,” Ata says, “when I photographed a deaf and mute girl. She was smiling and laughing with joy, because no one had ever found her special enough to take a photograph of her.” When he is out shooting, there are many challenges that he encounters. One of the greatest, he believes, is that there are many scenes that often look extraordinary to the eye, but can be very difficult to translate into a photograph. The eyes are, after all, equipped with the best sensors.

Regarding the local creative scene, Ata proudly says that Bangladesh is now one of the leading nations in terms of photography. Sadly however, the masses there are still far from understanding and valuing photography and art in general, so he feels photographers and artists from his region are actually more valued in other countries.

When asked to describe his work, he likes to think of it as being soulful, intuitive and heart-warming. His tips to aspiring photographers are to work hard and be very dedicated to the craft. He advises to “try to interact with people, observe them and understand human characteristics (even when you aren’t carrying your camera)”. This can play a vital part in helping you capture moments in the streets.

Form Maker

Form Maker is a Shanghai-based design studio that produces a wide range of unique furniture and products for the home from renewable paper materials. Founded in 2013 by Chinese-Australian interior designer Kira Pan, the studio makes designs that have a playful, often geometric, and eye-catching sense of form. Since Form Maker products are constructed from cardboard, they have a delightfully tactile and striking texture. Perhaps surprisingly, the lightweight furniture is also quite durable and sturdy.

Form Maker’s products typically range from small desktop stationary items to much larger pieces of furniture, such as tables and chairs. Each design is carefully crafted in their workshop, with the intent to bring joy and sustainable awareness to homes. Read our interview below with Form Maker’s Creative Director Kira Pan to find out more.

Neocha: What is the concept behind Form Maker?

Form Maker: People usually don’t put paper as their first choice when it comes to choosing furniture and homeware, but Form Maker would like to change all that. MDF, polyurethane, plastic are the more common materials that have always been used for furniture making, and they can do a lot of damage to our environment. The idea behind Form Maker is to use design as a language to convince people of alternative sustainable solutions when it comes to making a choice.


Neocha: Form Maker背后的理念是什么?

Form Maker: 人们在选择家具或家居用品时通常都不会将纸质产品作为首选,但是Form Maker希望改变这样的观念。中纤板、聚氨酯(简称PU)、塑料是目前家具制作中更广泛使用的材料,而它们也是破坏环境的罪魁祸首之一。Form Maker背后的理念,就是以设计为话语,去说服人们选择环保的解决方案。

Neocha: Describe for us the process in making a Form Maker product.

Form Maker: Currently we are a small team and all designs are made in-house within a shared workshop space. The process usually involves colouring, cutting and hand making each piece with a lot of care. It is done with a dynamic mix of cutting-edge technology and traditional handcraft.


Neocha跟我们讲讲Form Maker的产品制作流程吧

Form Maker: 目前我们还只是一个小团队,所有设计都是我们几个人在工作坊内一起完成的。制作流程通常包括上色、剪裁以及精细严谨的手工部分,利用前沿技术和传统手工艺的密切结合来完成。

Neocha: What are your design inspirations?

Form Maker: I like to think about what we can create to bring our eco-friendly idea into every aspect of people’s home and workspace. The thought becomes a brief, waiting for a moment when something in life gives that spark of inspiration and lead to sketching and prototyping. We will make sure we road test all designs in our own homes. Functionality is just as important as the look. I want all our cardboard pieces to not only be creative and fun, but also useful and would last the distance.


Neocha: 你的灵感来源是什么?

Form Maker: 我时常会想,要创造一些怎样的东西才能将我们的环保理念带入人们的日常生活以及工作环境中。这个想法,生活里的东西去点燃那个灵感的火花,继而变成一个初步构思,随之形成设计草图和产品原型。我们会在自己家将所有设计都实地测试一遍。对我们来说,功能性和外观同样重要。我希望我们的卡纸作品不仅富有创意、充满乐趣,还要实用并且耐用的。  

Neocha: Why is sustainable design important, and how are Form Maker products sustainable?

Form Maker: As a designer we feel the obligation to practice sustainable design, because we need to be the ones pushing the boundaries and define the way future looks like. It is especially critical now as our planet is under serious threat.

Compared with a product of the same size made from plastic, one of our products emits nearly six times less CO2 per kilogram during the production process. We also use water-based adhesives with non-toxic ink to ensure safety for users and to minimize the impact on the environment. With our flat packed designs, carbon footprint during transit has also been reduced.


Neocha: 你为何觉得环保设计如此重要?Form Maker商品是如何遵循这一理念的?

Form Maker: 作为设计师,我们认为自己有责任去尝试环保设计,因为我们要成为那个推动和勾画未来的人。当下是非常关键的时刻,因为我们的星球正在饱受威胁。

在制作过程中,同样大小的塑料制品每公斤比我们的商品多释放出6倍的二氧化碳;并且我们使用无毒的水性粘合剂,确保了使用者的安全,也做到最小化对环境的影响。由于我们的设计采用平板包装,运输中的碳排放也相对减少了。

Neocha: Describe for us a couple of your favorite Form Maker designs. Why are they interesting?

Form Maker: My favorite right now is our latest collection of kids’ homeware, called Gobble. This is a very meaningful project and collaborative effort that we undertook with Kae Collective. Gobble is a collection of fun, eco-friendly, animal inspired furniture. We designed Gobble with the aim to teach kids the habits of sustainable living through daily interaction and play.


Neocha: 跟我们说说你最喜欢哪些Form Maker的设计吧,以及为什么觉得它们有趣?

Form Maker: 目前我最喜欢的是,我们最新的名为“Gobble”的儿童家居用品系列,这是我们与Kae Collective合作完成的一个项目,它对我们来说非常有意义。Gobble是一个好玩、环保并且以动物为灵感的家具系列。我们设计这个系列旨在通过日常的互动和玩耍来让小朋友们养成环保的习惯。

Neocha: How would you define good design?

Form Maker: To put things very simply, I believe good design should be inspired by life and created for life. With these two intent fulfilled, the design can then have the true potential to become part of someone’s life and bring them joy.

Form Maker: 简单来讲,我相信好的设计应该来源于生活并且为生活服务。满足了这两点,这个设计便有了成为人们愉悦生活的一部分的潜能。

Neocha: What are the future plans for Form Maker?

Form Maker: Form Maker will be stepping into the interior realm by creating more experiential and educational spaces for people to look, feel, interact and most importantly to live in. Then we will truly see how Form Maker’s ideas can combine with daily living.

The Photography of No. 223

No. 223 (aka Lin Zhipeng) is a photographer known for his ability to show the volatile, primal energy of China’s younger generation. His work explores topics of love, sexuality, gender, free expression, and consumption within the context of modern China. No. 223 was one of the 12 artists brought together by Gap REMIX Project to reimagine the classic Gap logo in an exclusive collection of graphic tees.


编号223(又名林志鹏)是一个以表达躁动的青春荷尔蒙而被众人所知的中国新生代摄影师。他的作品探寻的正是当代中国最受关注的主题:爱、性、性别、自由。编号223是参与2015年Gap REMIX项目的11位艺术家之一,该项目邀请每位艺术家以各自风格重塑经典的Gap logo,从而打造出一个特别版系列T恤。

The name “No. 223” comes from one of the characters in the classic Hong Kong film Chungking Express. According to No. 223, “Wong Kar-wai is my all-time favorite director. I love his work, and that’s where the name came from. Now most people just call me 223 – some people don’t even know my real name.”


“编号223”的名字源于经典港片《重庆森林》中的一个角色。编号223说“王家卫是我最喜欢的导演,他的作品我都很喜欢,所以我的名字也是出自他的作品。现在大家都叫我223,一些人甚至从来不知道我的真名。”

The photography of No. 223 often gives the viewer a voyeuristic look into his life. According to him, “I try to be open and just share everything… my feelings, my insecurities, my experiences, my joys, my pains, my struggles.” Authenticity is key, since all of his images “are an expression of real people and real sensibilities.”

Much of 223’s work captures his friends and the people around him, making him more than just a sideline observer. “When I’m shooting, I’m a participant. I’m in the moment and in the environment together with my subjects.” According to him, “the imagemaking process is a mutual experience.”

Te To Ka

In the Kanda district in Chiyoda, Tokyo, there is a laid-back artist café and gallery space called Te To Ka.


東京都千代田区の神田に、Te To Kaという名前のくつろいだ雰囲気のアーティストカフェとギャラリースペースがあります。

The name “Te To Ka” means “Hands and Flowers” in Japanese, which as the owner Chieko Kobayashi and gallery director Atsushi Tezuka explain, indicates the café space’s dedication to handicrafts and handmade art.


Te To Ka」は、「手と花」という意味です。ギャラリーのオーナーの小林千絵子さんとディレクターの手塚敦嗣さんは、お店の名前について、「手工芸と手作りの芸術のためのカフェスペースであること」を表していると説明しています。

Formerly an old store, the space at Te To Ka now regularly hosts art workshops, small exhibitions, and local art events. In its own way, by supporting independent artists, Te To Ka wants to offer a small kind of resistance to the relentless commercialism that we encounter every day.


以前は古い店舗であったTe To Ka では、現在は芸術のワークショップ、小規模な展覧会、そして地域の芸術イベントを定期的に主催しています。独自な方法で独立した芸術家を支援することで、Te To Ka は日々私達が目にする容赦のない商業化に対するささやかな抵抗を意図しているのです。

Te To Ka is filled and decorated with vintage furniture, second-hand books, artwork, and other kinds of interesting old objects. For Chieko, there is currently an overabundance of mass-produced and cheap impersonal products in Japan, and a dearth of honest and real craftsmanship.


Te To Ka には、ビンテージ家具、古本、芸術作品やその他の古く興味深い品々がたくさん飾られています。小林さんは、現在の日本は大量生産され安く個性のない製品で溢れており、正直かつ本物である職人的な技巧(クラフトマンシップ)が不足していると感じています。

She believes that by supporting craftsmanship and rejecting crass commercialism, a community of local independent artists can come together and grow together.


クラフトマンシップを支援し、下品な商業主義を拒否することで、地域の独立した芸術家のコミュニティーが集い、共に成長することができると考えています。

As a gallery, it regularly hosts artist talks, film screenings, art exhibitions, creative workshops, live music performances, and DJ & VJ events. The space can hold up to 30 people, so it is always a small and intimate gathering at Te To Ka.


Te To Kaはギャラリーとして、芸術家のトークイベント、映画上映、美術展、創造的なワークショップ、ライブ音楽演奏、DJ VJのイベントを定期的に主催しています。Te To Kaの収容人数は、最大30人なので、常に小規模でくつろいだ集いを開催しています。

In the past, their exhibitions showed works of more well-known artists, but going forward, Te To Ka is also dedicated to helping lesser known and underrepresented local artists. The atmosphere at the café is always welcoming and friendly, and visitors can easily interact with this talented community of artists.


過去のTe To Kaの展覧会は、知名度が高い芸術家を扱うものでしたが、ゆくゆくは、知名度が低く過小評価されている地域の芸術家にも貢献します。カフェの雰囲気は、心地よく友好的です。そして、訪れる人たちは、才能のある芸術家のコミュニティーとたやすく交流することができます。

Kawaii Monster Café

Well-known for his psychedelic and pop-kitsch style, Japanese artist Sebastian Masuda recently gave us a taste of his aesthetic in the newly opened and eye-popping Kawaii Monster Café.


サイケデリックでポップキッチュなスタイルで有名な日本人アーティストの増田セバスチャンが、最近新たに開いた驚きのKawaii Monster Caféで、彼の美学を披露しました。

Located in the heart of the fashionable Harajuku district, the café is hosted by the Harajuku Monster Girls, who greet you as you make a dramatic entrance through the red front doors.


ファッショナブルな原宿の中心に位置するこのカフェは、赤いフロントドアを開けるとドラマチックな入り口で原宿モンスターガールが挨拶して、おもてなしをしてくれます。

As you come in, you first walk past a dazzling, spinning merry-go-round shaped like a gigantic cake with candy animals.


店に入ると、目がクラクラしそうな回るメリーゴーランドの形をしたキャンディアニマルが乗った巨大ケーキを通り過ぎます。

Depending on where you are seated, the Kawaii Monster Girl will then lead you to either: a mushroom disco, a milk stand zone with VIP booths, a quaint tea room decorated with giant macaroons, or a glowing jellyfish bar encased by illuminated tentacles.


席に応じて、カワイイモンスターガールがあなたを次の場所に案内してくれます:マッシュルームディスコ、仕切り席付きミルクスタンドゾーン、巨大マッシュルームで飾られたティールーム、イルミネーション付き触手に覆われた光を放つクラゲバー。

On the menu, visitors can order themed snacks and refreshments, like a “poison” parfait, monster burgers, popcorn shrimp, rainbow pasta, or exotic cocktails. The food on offer is as colorful as the café is, but we are assured that any food coloring is all-natural.


「ポイズン」パフェ、モンスターバーガー、ポップコーンエビ、レインボーパスタやエキゾチックカクテルなどをメニューから注文できます。提供されるメニュもカフェと同じくカラフルですが、食品には全て天然着色料が使われています。

Guests are encouraged to explore this wonderland and take photos. The amount of detail that has been put into the interior design of Kawaii Monster Café is just breathtaking and really deserves a closer look.

Surrounding you are illuminated animal heads, towers of melting macaroons, overgrown colorful mushrooms, chandeliers that look like candy, suspended milk bottle lights, giant disembodied lips hanging on a wall, and much more.

Japan’s bookstore culture is well-known throughout the world, but Book & Beer has some special characteristics that set it apart from other Japanese bookstores.


日本の書店文化は世界に広く知られていますが、Book & BeerB&B)には従来の日本の書店とは違った特徴があります。

Located in the Shimokitazawa district in Tokyo, B&B is a cozy bookstore that allows its visitors to enjoy drinking beer (and other drinks) while browsing its unique selection of books.


東京の下北沢にある居心地のいい書店B&Bでは、個性的な本を選びながらビールやその他の飲み物を楽しむことができます。

The store also hosts events, every day that it is open. Additionally, the shelves, tables, chairs and the other furniture in the store are all available for purchase. All those items can be found at: kontrast.jp 


B&Bでは毎日営業中にイベントも開催しています。さらに本棚や机、椅子やその他の家具は全て購入することができます。商品はすべてkontrast.jp に掲載されています。

The two founders of the bookstore, Koichiro Shima and Shintaro Uchinuma, came up with this concept for a very simple reason: they really like to drink beer! They thought one day, “how fantastic would it be to be able to browse books while also drinking beer.” From that moment, the store was born.


この書店の創業者である嶋浩一郎氏と内沼晋太郎氏の構想はとてもシンプルな理由から始まりました。2人はビールが大好きだったのです!ある日2人は「本を選びながらビールを飲めたらどんなにいいだろう」と考え、そこを出発点としてこの書店が生まれました。

Although Terashima Sayaka, the store manager of B&B, admits only liking beer when it’s hot in the summertime, she very much enjoys pouring beer for customers from the tap. Sayaka hopes the store will continue implementing all kinds of new ideas as a bookstore in the future and looks forward to being in Shimokitazawa for a long time to come. The next time you are in Tokyo, be sure to give this bookstore a visit!

IdleBeats Print Club

IdleBeats is the artist duo of Nini Sum and Gregor Koerting. The pair have been in Shanghai since 2009, functioning as a print art studio and focusing on the creation of original screenprinted art, installation art, music posters, and brand crossover projects. The talented duo have become well-known within the Shanghai creative circles and beyond, for their psychedelic and distinctive visual style.


IdleBeats是一个双人艺术组合,两位成员是中国艺术家Nini Sum和德国艺术家Gregor Koerting。自从2009年成立以来,IdleBeats一直活跃在原创的丝网印刷艺术、装置艺术、音乐海报艺术和品牌跨界合作等活动中。

In addition to being printmakers, Nini and Gregor also create illustrations, album artwork, oil paintings, comic books, sculptures, and experimental work. They have made posters for musicians and bands like Motorhead, Melvins, and Handsome Furs, and have participated in exhibitions and art fairs around the world.


除了制作丝网印刷,Nini和Gregor也创作一些插画、油画、漫画、雕塑和其他实验性项目。他们为Motorhead, Melvins和Handsome Furs等乐队的演出制作海报,也会参加世界各地的创意集市展示他们的作品。

After six years, they have now opened the all new IdleBeats Print Club, a local community-based screenprinting service offshoot of IdleBeats. Hosted by Gregor Koerting, Wilhelm Lang and Nini Sum, the purpose of the print club is to provide screenprint lovers in Shanghai a place to work on their own projects at low cost. The club encourages learning about printmaking, the free exchange of creative ideas, and open dialogue with other artists within the community.


IdleBeats在创意届活跃了6年,他们又开了一个IdleBeats丝网印刷俱乐部。全新的俱乐部由Gregor Koerting,Wilhelm Lang和Nini Sum共同创立,为丝网印刷爱好者提供服务,他们可以在这里用较低的价格完成自己的艺术项目。IdleBeats丝网印刷俱乐部给艺术群体提供了一个学习印刷技术、交流创意想法的平台。

In addition to regular workshops on the weekends, the IdleBeats Print Club also offers memberships, tee shirt & tote printing services, door-to-door workshops, and live printing events. With a newly installed six-head color wheel, it’s easy for members to print a batch of five-color shirts or three-color gig posters.


IdleBeats丝网印刷俱乐除了每周末开设的工作坊之外,还有很多个性化的会员服务:T恤印刷服务、上门工作坊以及现场印制活动等。而且会员们可以使用拥有六头上色滚轮的新设备制作一次就能印刷五种颜色的T恤或者三种颜色的演出海报。

The IdleBeats Print Club is located in an underground complex that also houses the Basement 6 Collective and Uptown Records. Together this underground art community will generate more energy and inspiring ideas. With these like-minded partners, the goal is to turn this underground space into an exciting hub of true creativity in Shanghai.


IdleBeats丝网印刷俱乐部和Basement 6、Uptown唱片店一样,都位于平武路115号的地下室,这些志同道合的朋友们聚在一起,为上海的创意文化集结了一股强大的地下文化力量。

The opening event for the Idlebeats Print Club this past July was the first event ever co-hosted by IdleBeats, Uptown Records, and Basement 6. Many friends and print lovers came out for the opening that night and enjoyed music performances from Mau Mau and Gooooose. While some people were busy making screenprints with IdleBeats, others participated in Basement 6’s “Drink and Draw”.


7月的开幕派对是IdleBeats丝网印刷俱乐部、Basement 6和Uptown唱片共同店举办的第一个活动。艺术爱好者们齐聚一堂,有些聚集在IdleBeats的工作室,有些则在Basement6的空间交谈。

The IdleBeats Print Club is now open to everyone, including artists, designers, musicians, indie brand owners, and students.
